Filling the Gap

If you’re missing a tooth, or even several teeth, your Cherryvalley Dental Care dentist may recommend a custom made bridge to fill the gaps and restore your beautiful smile.

If these gaps aren’t filled, your remaining teeth could shift or rotate into the empty space and cause your bite to become misaligned. This space could also lead to gum disease and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Placing Your New Bridge

In order to place your new bridge we will need to first shape the teeth on either side of the gap and make a digital impression, which we will use to create your custom made bridge.

When your bridge is ready, we will organise a convenient time for you to return to our practice where we will secure it in place permanently.

FAQs

How do I know if a bridge is right for me?

Filling gaps with a bridge will reduce the strain on the surrounding teeth, and prevent them from shifting and creating even more problems. Food and bacteria can also get stuck in these gaps and cause tooth decay or gum disease. It should also go without saying that a bridge will restore your smile and help boost your confidence!

Is a bridge better than a denture?

Bridges are permanently fixed in your mouth and look and act more like natural teeth, making it easier to eat foods like fresh vegetables, fruit and crusty bread. They are also more comfortable, easier to clean, take up less space in your mouth and are less likely to affect your speech.

Dentures, on the other hand, need to be removed every day to allow your gums and palate to ‘breathe’ to reduce the chances of disease and further tooth loss.

Your dentist will gladly discuss the pros and cons of dentures and bridges with you before they begin any treatment.

Does it hurt to have a bridge put in place?

Our dentists are highly skilled and always do their very best to make the treatment as pain free as possible. Occasionally, some patients experience a small amount of sensitivity for a few days but it usually goes away on its own after a few days.
