Crowns are used in times when a tooth is badly broken, weak or damaged.
Dental crowns are mainly used to restore broken teeth. They fit over an existing tooth to restore its size, shape, strength and/or to improve its appearance.
Designed as a permanent solution to weak or compromised teeth, Cherryvalley Dental Care custom makes each crown to fit your exact bite for a better, more functional and cosmetically pleasing tooth.
Putting your new crown in place will normally take 2 appointments.
We take digital impressions of your teeth and match your new crown’s colour to the rest of your teeth- particularly those surrounding the area where the crown will be placed.
Your tooth will be gently prepared so its remaining structure provides a strong base and we then bond your custom made crown permanently into place.
Crowns are made of inert materials that do not deteriorate but the underlying tooth is still prone to decay and gum disease. As long as the underlying tooth remains healthy and strong your new crown should last a very long time. In short, the better you take care of your new crown the longer it will last.
During the procedure we will use a local anaesthetic to numb the surrounding area around your new crown- so you should feel little to no pain whatsoever. And if the tooth’s nerve has been previously removed and we are creating a post crown, it probably won’t be necessary to use an anaesthetic at all.
Taking care of a crown is as simple as looking after your natural teeth. Regular brushing and flossing will keep your crown clean and the gums surrounding it healthy. Some crowns may need a slight adjustment after placement, but otherwise it should look and feel healthy, strong, and natural from day one.
